History Panama was discovered in 1501 by Rodrigo de Bastidas and Vasco Nuñez de Balboa. Year 1513 led an expedition that found the pacific ocean in Panama. Pedro Arias Dávila founded panama August 15th, 1519. Panama was a Spanish colony during 1821 to 1903 when it broke it’s alliance with Colombia and became an independent republic. Sites The capital of Panama is Panama City located on the gulf of Panama in the Pacific Ocean. Panama relys on income from the Canal and current banking business. Also Colon, located on the carribean coast with its trade free zone. Government May 3rd 2010 Ricardo Martinelli won the national elections in Panama with more than 60% of the votes. The ruling part is the Democratic Change party. The party was founded in May 20th 1998 by Ricardo Martinelli. Current enlisted members around 100.000. Geography Panama is located between Costa Rica and Colombia, forming the narrowest and lowest part of the Isthmus that links South America with North America |
